Solid Wood Care
Wood furniture is coated with a film that is referred to as finish. Besides enriching the grain and adding luster, the finish seals and protects wood from moisture, dirt and regular use. These finishes
vary from simple lacquers to more complex polyester resins. Wood expands and contracts with temperature and humidity. Expect each piece to react differently. Laminated woods and veneers are more stable than solid wood planks.
Follow some of these tips to extend the life of the finish or your wood furniture:
- Use tablecloths to protect dining tables that get regular use.
- Hot pads should always be used under warm serving dishes.
- Always use a protective pad when writing with a ballpoint pen.
- Place furniture away from windows or block direct sunlight to protect from damaging UV rays.
- Avoid sliding items across a table top.
- Place candles on stand or trays, rather than directly on wood.
- Clean wood regularly by dusting and cleaning. Use a lint-free soft cotton cloth. Dampen cloth with water or furniture polish and follow the pattern of the grain.
- Follow cleaning with a quality furniture polish to protect the surface.
